The
Olympics are held every four years. Soon after they finish, the *Paralympics
are held. The Paralympics are Olympics for disabled people. They include common
sports events such as basketball and track and field. But there are also some
unique games, such as goalball. Goalball is a sport that is played by blind people.
There are three players on a team. Each team tries to score points by rolling
the ball past the other team’s goal line. How do the blind players know where
the ball is? They listen to the sound of bells inside the ball. When they hear
the bells, they run towards the ball and try to stop it with their body. Since
the players cannot see and they have to listen to the sounds, the people who
are watching should not make any noise. That’s why cheering is only permitted after
a goal is scored.
